Hey guys,
I hope this meets you well as we write in emails or formal communications. Allow me to take a little victory lap especially because of our latest comic book, The Boss’s Wife.
We have been doing comics for a while now, and as the proper Nigerian Lingo goes, “our eyes saw pepper”, it just simply means we went through a lot in doing this. Much credit to my business partner who scoured the internet for graphic artists and talent that can help us produce these books.
It hasn’t been easy, believe it or not, we were scammed, some artists took off with our funds, and never showed up with the work, some even charged us crazy fees, and still we couldn’t produce a good enough quality, and here is why my appreciation comes in, ever since we’ve started putting it out, we have received thousands of downloads for the comic books.
Thank you for supporting us thus far, when we started the comic book journey, we had so many downloads that our servers crashed and we had to subscribe for a much higher server capacity to be able to take the amount of traffic that the new downloads brought to the website.
The love you have shown us daily, and through the years has been immense. Over the years, we have found new readers, a vast majority have been through Google Search, fans of Nigerian sex stories, came in droves, some were referred to us by their friends, and more recently, users found us through #OniranuConfession.
The Boss’s Wife comic book represents the quality and representation of our creative arts that we have been seeking. Still, it all has happened through sacrifice, willpower and the intense need to give our readers the best of quality.
For the people who started reading us recently, let me give you a quick introduction to us, and answer perhaps the most frequently asked questions about me. Deolu Bubble is an anonymous writer of erotic materials and fiction.
I think I wrote my first story in late 2010, or early 2011. I had a friend who was working for a digital platform then, he asked me to write a story for their platforms, but said there were already lots of writers in fiction, he asked if I could write erotic stories instead of general stories. It was a funny request, he said,
“You’re a fine guy, I’m sure you’ve had really nice encounters that you could write, I’ll help push it on our platform”. The platform was Y! Naija, after a few weeks, without much knowledge of writing, I wrote it and gave it to him, took him almost a week to read and proofread and then it was ready to push to management.
As it would happen, the management then had another writer for the section that seemed like they had given the column to, he gave me the bad news, and then told me, why not just start your blog?
And that was what I did later in 2011 on the free WordPress domain. I published the first story, titled, “The Impromptu Parole”, and now the story is out, what is next? Traffic!!!
Damn, at this time, Twitter was fairly new in Nigeria, and there were many Nigerian writers, and it was usually the practise then that when you published a story, you’ll publish the link on Twitter and copy handles of prominent folks with large following, hoping they can retweet.
Back then, if I got 100 views a day, it was considered worthy of celebration, it started with people hurling insults at me and some authors who wrote our type of content because as Nigerians we are holier than thou, we are the original Assistant Jesus folks. The story gets better, years later, we did over a million views a month, from 100 views a day.
As with open web infrastructure, some people found the content interesting and decided to collaborate. It was such a pleasure to collaborate with people like Vixen Banks, Danny Chucks, Dames Caucus, Fierce Lane, and even more writers.
Years down the line, I would get an offer to get bought over, I think this was around 2015-ish, and the offer got to around $10,000. I considered it strongly, the only reason I didn’t give in then was that it couldn’t buy my dream car. LOL
At that point, I was addicted to managing the blog, but it was too hard to sell, instead, I joined Pulse around 2016 and became one of the writers with the highest views while I worked there. Working at Pulse exposed my stories to many more people, while working at Pulse, I had to take a break from writing on my blog.
A lot has happened to this platform in the past decade and more, but recently and more importantly, we became a company, we incorporated a company and began to create more content, including exclusive content where we charge a little fee to read them.
Our objective from Day 1 is to create content that everyone can relate to, and make it available, as you know now, there is no week since we started this journey that we have not published at least 3 free stories on the website.
It is wonderful that our readers continue to support us because we have overheads, there are writers to pay, and infrastructures to maintain, amongst others.
We are also big on social impact, in case you didn’t see it, we recently sponsored feeding for orphaned kids through the Baptiste Kitchen, and we have other philanthropic activities that we have lined up.
I’ll stop here for today, your support is very important to us, keep supporting us, and we will keep making you proud, there are many more projects we have in the pipeline that will make you proud of us, we are going global, and already we are international.
It hasn’t been an easy journey, I would like to thank my partners who have come on board to push us to greater heights, and one incredible influence is that we are having a lot of fun, you have no idea how much fun we have working for this company.
We haven’t gotten where we are going but we are somewhere and that is a place we are proud of, for all our new followers, welcome on board, for the people who have been following for years, thank you for holding on, we appreciate your support.
Something incredibly awesome is coming soon, watch this space. For now, check out our Selar store for more stories
Have a good one,
‘Deolu
