Holla Earthlings,

“She fainted Chris. She fainted and it’s all my fault.” Camille said with her eyes misting over.
“Who said it was your fault? Stop adding two and two to make five please.” Chris said, irritated by her hysterics. The pseudo sleep he caught on that sofa in TY’s suite had made him irascible and with every passing moment, his impatience grew.
“Of course it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have said anything.” Camille said, oblivious to Chris’ mounting edginess.
“You think?” Chris said. The words left his mouth soaked in sarcasm.
“We shouldn’t have even done anything.” Camille said almost sobbing.
“Which hospital is she in?” Chris said unwilling to get into any of her minor meltdowns.
“Saint Nicholas” Camille said “that’s what her roommate told me. She also told me that Lola had been crying since she came back from the party and that she had locked herself in the bathroom for a long time.”
“And so?”
“I’m think she might have hurt herself” Camille said.
“Stop jumping to conclusions. You don’t know what happened. When you get to the hospital, you’d know for sure.” Chris said.
“When I get to the hospital? Aren’t you coming?”
“No. Not right now and certainly not like this.”
Looking him over, Camille said “You do look like shit. What happened to you?”
“Just get to the hospital, Camille. Bye bye.” Chris said.
Turning to walk away, the uneasy feeling that hit him when he called Lola and Lola’s mum picked Lola’s phone came back and now the feeling was wrapped in guilt which made him even more uneasy. He tried to shake it off but the feeling stayed on his mind like a fitted baseball cap. Getting to where he parked his car, he got in and headed in the general direction of his apartment.
When he got to his apartment, he kept thinking if Camille had been right and they’d been the cause and reason as to why Lola had fainted. This line of thought really bothered him.
Pushing said thoughts to the back of his mind, he picked up his phone and placed a call. The call was answered on the second ring.
“Hello” Chris said.
“Hey you. Have you gotten home yet?” TY answered in her trademark singsong voice.
“Yeah. I have.” Chris replied.
“Okay. Hope you’re good?” TY asked.
“Yeah. You made sure of that. Thanks” Chris said with a hint of a snicker in his voice
“You’re welcome.” TY said. Chris could almost swear she had that angelic smile on her face when she said that.
“What are your plans for the day?” Chris asked.
“Well. Not a lot really. I think I want to go home today though. Why? You want to take me out?”
“Not really. Tired of hotel suites and room service already?” Chris said.
“Not exactly. The same thing every night is sorta boring. I need a change of scenery.”
“Amen to that.”
“How about you. What are you doing today?”
“Why? You wanna take me out?” Chris asked, teasing her.
“Touché.” TY replied.
Chris chuckled and said “I just got home. I want to take a shower first then rest a little after which I’d go and see Lola in the hospital”
“Hospital? Why? What happened?” TY asked with a hint of concern in her voice.
“Apparently, she fainted this morning. Worst part, her mum is there with her”
“Wow. Where do you find all these fragile girls? How do you seek them out?”
“Seek who out? Whatever do you mean?”
“Stop playing dumb, Chris. I heard your 100 level girlfriend was ill for weeks after y’all broke up”
“You heard or you found out?”
“Same difference. What do you do to these girls?”
“I absolutely have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“Okay o. Let me know how it goes at the hospital. I’m sure it will be hilarious.”
“So my discomfort would be full of humor to you then, eh?”
“Why not?”
“Oh I see.”
“Just tell me all about it later. I’d like to know how it goes down.” TY said.
“Okay. I’ll let you know what’s up.”
“Alright. Bye.”
“Bye.” Chris said and then hung up.
Feeling a little calmer than he was before, he went in to take a shower. Whilst in the shower, he heard his phone ring. Deciding against leaving the shower midway through a rinse cycle, he ignored the phone. He decided to call whoever it was back. Feeling invigorated and refreshed after the shower, he stepped out of the shower with one towel tied to his waist and another one was in his hand and he was using it to wipe his face and torso. He picked up his phone and he had one new text message.
Before he was done reading, he had gone into a frenzy. He was dressing up at a blazing speed. The message that he had read had said that Lola’s Mum had left Lola under Lola’s older sister’s care. That she would be gone for a short while. Camille was the sender of the text.
Even as most of his family members had met Lola, he had only met Lola’s older sister and younger brother. He had never met her strict disciplinarian mother or her father. He especially did not want to meet her under the present circumstances.
Getting dressed in record time and racing to his car and driving at breakneck speeds to the hospital was no easy feat. When he got to the hospital, he went in to the reception and there, he saw Camille.
“Why are you here?” Chris asked.
“I don’t know if she’d want to see me. I don’t want to agitate her. Her sister left here. She said Lola had woken up. I told her I’d be right there but the truth is, I don’t want to see her; not yet.”
“Okay. So where is she?” Chris asked.
“Down that corridor, third room on your right.” Camille said, pointing.
“Okay. Thanks.”
Walking down the length of the corridor to the door where Camille had said Lola was, he took a deep breath and then walked in. Walking into the room he saw Lola’s older sister smile at him and then came forward to hug him.
“Welcome” Lola’s sister said.
“Hello” Chris said and smiled at her. Obviously, Lola hasn’t told her sister about his tryst with Camille.
“Let me give you two some space. I’ll be right back.”
“Thanks.” Chris said.
After the door closed behind Lola’s sister, Chris asked Lola “How are you feeling?”
“Don’t worry about it. I’m fine. You came.” Lola said albeit a little weakly.
“Of course I’d come. Sometimes, I’d take some time but of course I’d come.” Chris said trying to lighten her mood.
Lola smiled weakly.
“But Lola, what happened?”
“It’s nothing really. I just didn’t eat for a little over a day and I was really tired and still didn’t eat. I guess my body just shut down.”
“Wow. So what did the doctor say?”
“What I just said in a way that’s meant to confuse you.”
Chris chuckled.
“Thank God you’re okay. We’ll talk when you come back to school. Can’t stay too long here. I don’t want to meet you mother under these circumstances.”
“I don’t want you to meet her here sef and definitely not like this.” Lola said.
Squeezing her hand, Chris said “Bye. Bye. I’ll be on my way now.”
Tugging on his arm, he leaned a little closer and she kissed him on the cheek.
“All’s not forgiven. But I’m glad you’re here. We’ll talk when I get back.” Lola said.
“Okay.”
“Bye.”
