I find it challenging having to write about my Top 5 Television series of 2011, this is because I am addicted to anything on Television. I watch anything ranging from BBC to Hallmark channel. Having to choose my best is akin to having to choose your favorite out of all your Kids. But then, I do have to try.
My Top 5 for 2011 are:-
- Greys Anatomy
- House
- CSI:Miami
- Top Gear UK.
- Beverly Hills 90210.
Greys Anatomy is a must watch for me, my sister being a medical student, She forced me to watch and at a point I got hooked. This television show revolves around the drama and suspense that accompany the day to day lives of medical doctors at Seattle Grace. The shows main character Meredith Grey is a woman you just have to love, she is smart and pretty, and she also kicks arse.
For People that follow the show religiously, the end of season 7 was a cliff-hanger as Meredith rigged the Alzheimer’s trial in favor of Chief Webber’s wife. There were lots of ethical issues raised as a result of her actions, and at the beginning of season 8,she was suspended pending investigation , meanwhile her baby was taken away from her as she and Derek were having issues with their relationship because she screwed with his Drug trial and refused to apologise because she did no wrong. My favorite couple on the show besides Meredith and Derek is Callie and Arizona whom is an amazingly sexy lesbian couple. Have you noticed that in most television shows, there is usually a homosexual undertone? This is as a result of the dynamics of the American Society.
I am impressed with Shonda Rhimes, the creator and writer of the show as she brings a blend of fast paced medical drama coupled with a bit of Romance and some crazy crazy sex in the on-call room J. The soundtrack is also on point as it blends with a particular scene depending on the mood at the time. For me, Alex Karev is the most misunderstood character in the medical series…He is that sort of guy who acts like He doesn’t feel any pain, but its all a façade to hide and protect himself. It is mind-blowing
HOUSE is another medical series that I am also keenly interested in. The show revolves around the eccentricities of an ego driven doctor named Gregory House. Dr House isn’t your run of the mill type of doctor that does everything by the book, rather He is a cripple who pops Vicodin like it is Mentos. He is a thorn in the flesh to the Medical director of Princeton Plainsboro, Dr Lisa Cuddy for whom he has a mad crush on.
Rather than follow the typical process of asking the patients questions in the process of investigation, he prefers to order his Medical team to break into the homes of his patients searching for Viruses and Bacteria. In 2011, Dr House and Dr Cuddy start dating and for a while I didn’t quite believe, as House lacks the ability to truly fall in love. They broke up mid season with House taken it very badly. In the final episode of the season, his emotions get to a boiling point and in a fit of rage and jealousy, He crashes his car into her house while she was having dinner with her Family. Season 8 starts with House in jail trying to hustle his way through the system.
House is clearly someone that uses non-conventional means to get results. For him, the end clearly justifies the means. This show is a blast and it gets a 5 star.
CSI: Miami is another television show that excites me. Miami is one of my favorites cities in the world because it’s a coastal city with a lot of beaches and crazy hot chics. This show comprises of a team of Crime Scene Investigators that try to bring down the crime rate in Miami thorough both scientific and conventional means. My favorite character is Horatio who has a passion for his job and whom also fights tooth and nail to ensure justice is done. I watch this show wishing sometimes that if the Nigerian Police were half as good as these guys, the crime rate won’t be as high as we have it today. I see a typical DNA analysis taken hours to get done, when even with the best technology it takes days for results to be done..Oh well, it’s all for television.
Top Gear U.K is another fabulously exciting television show that gingers me. After a long day at school, I retire to the confines of my room and sit in front of the picture box with my 6 year old cousin Fouad and watch as Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May test and unleash the raw power and engineering of both modern and antique automobiles never seen before. As I only get to see some of this cars on Television, I smack my lips and imagine myself in an Aston Martin DB4 or in a Ferrari Enzo.
My best episode on this series was when Richard challenged a Euro fighter typhoon to a drag race to see which is faster, words can’t describe, only a YouTube video can, check this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NZ9X9A2efA . It’s funny when I look back and realize that it was my little cousin that made me to start watching top gear. He could tell you the fastest car in the world and the amount of seconds it would take for the car to accelerate from 0-60, which is a pretty amazing feat for a 6 year old. If you love cars and you don’t watch Top Gear, you are on a looong thing.
Beverly Hills:90210 is another television series that I just love to watch. It’s a remake of the older sister which also bears the same name with it. It is set as its name suggest in Beverly Hills, California and chronicles the lives of high school students as they wade through the treacherous life of sex, drugs and fast cars. For me, this show serves as some sort of escape out of the drudgery and suffering of our society, If you get what I mean. It never ceases to amaze me when I watch High school kids all acting matured and all, well it’s a cultural thing..In summary, it’s wonderful show.
That’s my top 5 television series of 2011. If it isn’t what you expect, I am really not sorry to disappoint you. Some would expect to find Modern Family and Game of Thrones on the list, I haven’t seen it and therefore I can’t make any comments on it.
